چکیده

The global land-surface temperature (LST) and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI) products retrieved fromModerate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) data in 2001 were used in this study. The yearly peak valuesof NDVI data at 5km grids were used to define six NDVI peak zones from -0.2 to 1 in steps of 0.2, and the monthlyNDVI values at each grid were sorted in decreasing order, resulting in 12 layers of NDVI images for each of the NDVIpeak zones. The mean and standard deviation of daytime LSTs and day-night LST differences at the grids correspondingto the first layer of NDVI images characterize the thermal status of terrestrial ecosystems in the NDVI peak zones. Forthe ecosystems in the 0.8-1 NDVI peak zone, daytime LSTs distribute from 0-35 °C and day-night LST differencesdistribute from -2 to 22 °C. The daytime LSTs and day-night LST differences corresponding to the remaining layers ofNDVI images show that the growth of vegetation is limited at low and high LSTs. LSTs and NDVI may be used tomonitor photosynthetic activity and drought, as shown in their applications to a flood-irrigated grassland in Californiaand an unirrigated grassland in Nevada.

Estimation of land surface temperature retrieved from EOS/MODIS in Naqu area over Tibetan Plateau

Using split window algorithms developed by Sobrino, added a suff icient and simple cloud detection process for MODIS L1B data. Then based on land surface classif ication (land, water, snow & ice), retrieved four land surface temperature images for clear sky in Naqu area over Tibetan Plateau in January, April, June and October in 2007, respectively. After that the derived LST was compared with t...

Development of Practical Multiband Algorithms for Estimating Land- Surface Temperature from Eos/modis Data

A practical multiband, hierarchical algorithm for estimating land-surface temperature from NASA's future EOS instruments MODIS and ASTER is developed through comprehensive, accurate, radiative transfer simulations at moderate spectral steps of 1-5 cm -1 for wide ranges of atmospheric and surface conditions. The algorithm will accept empirical or estimated information about the surface emissivit...

An RM-NN algorithm for retrieving land surface temperature and emissivity from EOS/MODIS data

[1] Three radiative transfer equations are built for MODIS bands 29, 31, and 32, which involve six unknown parameters (average atmospheric temperature, land surface temperature (LST), three band emissivities, and water vapor content). The relationships between geophysical parameters have been analyzed in detail, which indicates that neural network is one of the best methods to resolve these ill...
